Vancouver’s faculty assist employees vote 97% in favour of strike motion


The union representing assist employees at Vancouver’s public faculties has voted overwhelmingly to authorize strike motion in a labour dispute with the college board.

The Worldwide Union of Working Engineers Native 963 says members solid their ballots over the weekend and returned with a vote of virtually 97 per cent in favour of strike motion.

Union enterprise supervisor Tim De Vivo says in a press release that the union “might serve 72-hour strike discover at any time,” however it’s urging the Vancouver Faculty Board to renew talks.

The union says employees have been requested to take concessions that may have an effect on “present working circumstances” and job safety.


Talks stalled in September when the union says the board declined to debate a counter supply from employees.

The union represents about 900 assist employees, together with constructing engineers, custodians, cooks and bakers, culinary assistants, meals service employees and supervision aides, amongst others.
