November 6, 2026: Luxury group Kering has named British designer Martine Rose as the new creative director of Balenciaga. She will begin the Paris-based role on November 16, succeeding Pierpaolo Piccioli.
What Kering announced
In its official statement, Kering said Rose will lead the fashion house into a new creative chapter. Chief executive Luca de Meo highlighted her understanding of contemporary culture and her connection with younger audiences. Balenciaga chief executive Gianfranco Gianangeli also welcomed the appointment.
Who is Martine Rose?
Rose founded her namesake label in London in 2007. Her work draws on music, subcultures, streetwear and unconventional silhouettes. She previously collaborated with Balenciaga during Demna’s tenure, giving her experience with the brand before this appointment.
Why the leadership change matters
The appointment follows Piccioli’s departure and comes during wider creative leadership changes at brands owned by Kering. Rose’s background suggests a renewed emphasis on experimental design and cultural relevance, although the direction of future collections remains to be seen.
When does she start?
Kering specifies November 16, 2026, as the date Rose takes up her position. No future collection should be treated as confirmed until the house announces its schedule.
