Man charged following fatal boating incident on St. Lawrence River


A 46-year-old Ontario man has been charged in connection with a fatal boating incident on the St. Lawrence River in April.

Around 10 a.m. on April 25, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted to a capsized boat on the St. Lawrence River, north of Grenadier Island in Leeds and Thousand Islands Township.

Police say a 15-foot aluminum boat with multiple people on board had overturned. One person was unaccounted for.


First responders located a person in the water. The 41-year-old from Ottawa was found unresponsive and was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Following an investigation, an Ontario man has been charged with criminal negligence causing death.
