Madushanka wrecks Pakistan batting

Madushanka’s five-wicket haul sparks hosts’ dramatic batting collapse as they post 110 all out

Dilshan Madushanka claimed five wickets as Pakistan were skittled out for 110 in 25.3 overs in their fourth and final league match of the ODI tri-series at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Tuesday.

Left-arm pacer Madushanka finished with 5-34 in 8.3 overs while Sahan Arachchige took 2-24 as Sri Lanka’s decision to field first paid immediate dividends.

Pakistan, who struggled to build substantial partnerships, lost their last six wickets for 49 runs after reaching 61-4, with Sri Lanka’s bowlers maintaining pressure throughout the innings.

Opener Fakhar Zaman was caught by Rathnayake off Madushanka for five from 13 balls, while Maaz Sadaqat made eight before being trapped leg-before by Asitha Fernando. Pakistan slipped to 23-2 in 6.2 overs.

Babar Azam offered the strongest resistance, scoring 29 from 33 balls with five fours. However, his dismissal in the 13.1st over triggered a further collapse. Babar was trapped leg-before by Eshan Malinga after Salman Agha had fallen for nine, caught by wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis off Arachchige.

Saad Baig contributed five before being caught by Liyanage off Madushanka, leaving Pakistan at 46-3 in 9.2 overs. The fourth wicket fell at 61 when Agha departed, and Babar followed on the next ball without adding to the total.

Hasan Nawaz scored 17 from 31 deliveries, including a six, but found little support as Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals. Shadab Khan managed only two before being caught by Kusal Mendis off Arachchige, reducing Pakistan to 64-6.

Arafat Minhas made ten from 18 balls, hitting one four, before becoming Madushanka’s third victim of the innings. He was caught by Kusal Mendis in the 22nd over.

Hasan was dismissed one over later, caught by Kusal Mendis off Dunith Wellalage, leaving Pakistan at 91-8. Haris Rauf then departed for one.

Shaheen Shah Afridi provided a brief late burst, scoring 15 from 13 balls with two sixes, but Madushanka removed him to complete his five-wicket haul.

Sahan Arachchige got 2-24.

Earlier Pakistan made two changes to their squad which last played against England the other day when they downed the visitors by just one wicket thanks to Shadab Khan’s unbelievable century.

They brought in dashing young batsman Maaz Sadaqat in place of Saim Ayub and Naseem Shah has been included in place of Razaullah.

Naseem had skipped the previous game due to dislocation of his left hand finger.
