Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan has unveiled the first teaser of his upcoming cinematic spectacle The Odyssey, offering audiences an early glimpse into his ambitious adaptation of Homer’s timeless Greek epic.
The newly released footage presents Matt Damon as Odysseus in a gripping sequence where he confronts the mythical Cyclops, immediately establishing the film’s grand mythological scale.
The narrative then expands across sweeping ocean landscapes and the politically tense kingdom of Ithaca, where Robert Pattinson appears as Antinous, subtly plotting to claim power in Odysseus’ absence.
The teaser also introduces a powerful ensemble of mythological figures, including Charlize Theron as Circe, Zendaya as Athena, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and Tom Holland as Telemachus. Each character is briefly showcased in visually rich, atmospheric moments that blend mythology, emotional depth, and looming conflict.
Nolan’s interpretation appears to extend beyond Odysseus’ legendary voyage, placing equal emphasis on the turmoil unfolding in Ithaca. The visuals highlight vast sea expeditions, shadow-drenched palaces, and rising political unrest reflecting the director’s signature style of merging large-scale spectacle with deeply human storytelling.
Marking his 13th feature film, The Odyssey follows the global success of Oppenheimer, which grossed nearly $959 million worldwide and earned multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
The film is also poised to make history as the first narrative feature shot entirely on IMAX cameras, further reinforcing Nolan’s reputation for redefining cinematic technology and scale.
Produced by Universal Pictures, The Odyssey is scheduled for release on July 17 and is set to open alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated box office clashes in recent years.
