    The UN Safety Council on Wednesday known as for Iran to halt its assaults on Gulf states, in a decision that didn’t point out US or Israeli strikes on Iran, prompting Tehran’s ambassador to declare a “blatant misuse” of the worldwide physique.

    The decision, handed by 13 votes with two abstentions, “calls for the quick cessation of all assaults by the Islamic Republic of Iran towards Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.”

    It additionally “condemns any actions or threats by the Islamic Republic of Iran aimed toward closing, obstructing, or in any other case interfering with worldwide navigation by the Strait of Hormuz.”

    Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, the UN ambassador of Bahrain, which launched the decision sponsored by 135 international locations, mentioned its passing mirrored the Gulf’s key function within the world financial system.

    Veto-holders China and Russia each abstained from the Safety Council vote, angered that the decision didn’t acknowledge US-Israeli hostility in the direction of Iran.

    Iranian ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani mentioned the adoption of the textual content represented a “blatant misuse of the Safety Council mandate in pursuit of the political agendas” of the US and Israel.

    “Let me make it clear, this decision is a manifest injustice towards my nation, the principle sufferer of a transparent act of aggression,” he mentioned.

    The US, which backed the textual content, mentioned its adoption mirrored a broad condemnation of Iranian strikes.

    “Iran’s technique of sowing chaos, of attempting to carry their neighbors hostage, attempting to shake the resolve of the area, has clearly backfired, as proven by this vote as we speak,” mentioned US ambassador Mike Waltz.
