Thursday is drawing to a close with some shocking news for the gaming industry. It has just been announced that Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the studio that became legendary for high-profile remakes such as Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls.
The sad news comes from a report by Jason Schreier for Bloomberg, where the gaming journalist details that a total of 70 employees were laid off as part of the closure.

Sony Cites Business Review as the Catalyst for Bluepoint’s Closure
According to a PlayStation spokesperson, the decision to close the studio followed a “recent business review.” However, no further details were given, and Sony still hasn’t publicly spoken about the news.
Despite the shutdown, the spokesperson for the company highlighted that Bluepoint consisted of an incredibly talented team of developers who had great technical expertise, and also thanked them for their years of hard work.
“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” the spokesperson said. “We thank them for their passion, creativity, and craftsmanship.”
Founded in 2006, Bluepoint Games built its reputation mainly on bringing classic titles to modern consoles through well-built remakes, such as Demon’s Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

After the successful launch of the Demon’s Souls remake in 2020, the studio’s only public contributions were a support role in Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarök and a live-service title that was canceled in early 2025 before it could even be announced. With the studio set to close its doors next month, it appears they were simply unable to get another project off the ground in time to save the operation.
