The Resident Evil series has always had a nice combination of gore mixed with psychological horror. While the gory side of things will get your adrenaline spiking, nothing quite makes you feel as uneasy as the constant groans of zombies or the threats lurking in the shadows.

10 Resident Evil Requiem Features That Make Resource Management More Stressful Than Combat

Nobody said it was easy to juggle an inventory alongside bloodthirsty zombies.

Resident Evil Requiem keeps this trend going, combining both psychological horror and gore in a fantastic way that will keep you on your toes. Will you fall victim to the shadow ghost that is roaming the halls of the care facility? There are plenty of psychological horror moments to cover, so let’s get into it.

Spoilers for several Resident Evil Requiem moments below.

    9

    Wrenwood Hotel

    Eerily Quiet

Resident Evil Requiem Grace Sitting by Bed

Resident Evil Requiem introduces you to Grace’s playstyle in the Wrenwood Hotel, requiring you to navigate its halls in absolute silence. The game’s intro has you searching the hotel after Grace is told to investigate a death at the location.

The worst part about this section of the game is how eerily quiet everything is. Combined with the larger rooms of the hotel, this silence makes you feel like an enemy could be around any corner, then the cop from earlier appears, and things get nasty.

Grace is assaulted and forced to use a fire poker to defend herself. This whole moment is very intense, especially when you consider the cop is the one who is meant to serve and protect.

    Waking Up Trapped

    Bound Upside Down

Resident Evil Requiem Grace Hanging Upside Down

It’s a moment that was shown off in the trailers, so anyone who saw them knew what to expect. After being kidnapped by Victor Gideon, Grace is brought to the care facility, where she is hung upside down on a gurney with a needle in her arm and being drained of her blood.

As someone who knows many people with a fear of being kidnapped and tortured, I can only imagine how this scene affected them. Grace wakes up with an intense panic on her face and is forced to use her quick wits to cut herself free from her bonds.

While there isn’t much blood, the containers of it show how far Gideon was willing to go to find out what makes Grace so special.

    Meeting The Girl

    Blind and Deadly

Resident Evil Requiem Grace face to face with the girl

After managing to escape her bonds, Grace must find a way out of the care facility, but there is one major issue: a creature that stalks the halls. Before you even see the creature named “The Girl,” you are introduced to her via a children’s book telling you to avoid the dark because that is where she roams.

Shortly after, Grace is thrown into a panic when she comes face to face with the creature of the dark. She then must brave pushing a corpse out of the way for supplies and silently moving objects around to not get eaten by this creature.

The whole introduction to this character had many minds racing, trying to figure out how best to avoid detection when death is so near.

    The Chef

    Continuing His Work

Resident Evil Requiem Grace in the Kitchen

We have all been there before, mindlessly doing work that we have done time and time again. The zombies in Resident Evil Requiem feel the same, as they repeat their last memories on a loop.

You are first introduced to this by the chef — a hulking zombie that repeatedly chops away at flesh and grabs chunks from a vat of blood. This introduces you to the slow-paced movements of Grace’s side of the story, knowing that this zombie could take you down quickly with his butcher knife.

As you are forced to push a vat of blood to escape the kitchen, the brute will periodically turn around to continue his meal prep, forcing you to linger in silence, listening to him work, while you try desperately to get away.

    5

    The Meat Grinder

    Psychologically Gory

Resident Evil Requiem Grace in the Meat Grinder

The basement of the care facility is full of blood and gore, with dead bodies lying around, and zombies clawing at the bars of cells. Did we mention that “The Girl” returns to wreak havoc as well?

While navigating the maze that is the basement, you must go through the processing area, which requires you to jump onto a conveyor belt and dodge zombies while they get ground up. This entire moment feels tense, with dead bodies lying on the belt, and you never know which ones could spring to life.

At any moment, you could be grabbed and thrown into a grinder, instantly killing you. When played in first-person POV, this part of the game is even more intense, as the zombies seem to appear out of nowhere.

    4

    A Bloodbath

    And a Countdown

Resident Evil Requiem Grace in Blood Lab

You have managed to escape the care facility, only to have to make your way to an underground lab to find the keys to a helicopter. After finding said keys, Gideon starts the self-destruct sequence. Afterward, a thrilling and feverish escape commences.

With the clock counting down, you must make your escape, and there is no telling how much time is left before you are buried alive. As you run through the facility, blood is gushing everywhere, but the focus is more on getting out alive.

It is a heart-pounding moment that is sure to get stuck in your head. Especially if you get grabbed by the numerous zombies in your desperate attempt to escape.

    3

    A Narrow Elevator Escape

    The Girl Isn’t Finished

Resident Evil Requiem Grace in Elevator Escape

As you reach the end of the basement segment, you pick up Emily and make a run for the exit. This extreme chase scene has zombies attempting to claw at you as you run away with a child in your arms.

When you finally make it to the elevator, “The Girl” comes for you again. After narrowly escaping her grasp, the elevator calms, and a silence washes over before she strikes again.

In the end, you are forced to watch as Grace claws at the elevator to break it open and free herself and Emily before it slams down to the basement. At the last moment, Grace frees herself, and you are left wondering for a moment if she lost her leg. Instead, you find “The Girl’s” hand lying on the ground, and you are left wondering if she is still alive.

Being careful used to be optional in Resident Evil, really — but not in Requiem.

    Goodbye, Alyssa

    We Hardly Knew You

Resident Evil Requiem Alyssa Ashcroft in Hotel

Back to the beginning of Resident Evil Requiem, we have the Wrenwood Hotel escape. After seeing some photos, Grace remembers the time she stayed in the Wrenwood Hotel with her mother, Alyssa.

The scene quickly goes from calm to frantic as Alyssa forces Grace to flee the hotel. You think everything will be okay, as you have made it close to the exit. Grace goes into a full panic as her mother tries to calm her down.

Everything quiets down for a bit, and the focus is on getting out, but as soon as they go to leave, Alyssa is slashed down in front of Grace’s eyes. A splatter of blood strikes Grace’s face as she lets out a scream. This moment sets up a strong precedent for the rest of the game.

    1

    The Orphanage

    Children are Scary

Resident Evil Requiem Children Killing Man

Maybe this area doesn’t hit as hard for others, but after growing up on games like F.E.A.R, I have learned to fear children in video games, and the orphanage scene in Resident Evil Requiem hits hard.

You play as a child akin to Emily, wandering around the orphanage, trying to avoid detection from your creepy, scarred, and demented sisters. After witnessing them murder someone, your only thought is to get out alive.

Being small and helpless, needing to find ways to reach items, and hiding under beds to avoid being spotted, brings back haunting memories of childhood when everything seemed terrifying, and the game does an amazing job of capturing that mindset with this scene.
