ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has stated that as many as 10 universities have been providing unrecognized postgraduate levels, directing these institutes to discontinue their packages.

A notification issued by the Council’s registrar, accessible with Daybreakstated, that after a cautious assessment of the file, it was recognized that some universities had been providing and awarding postgraduate levels and diplomas to MBBS and BDS docs with out fulfilling the necessary requirement of recognition/accreditation underneath Part 25 of the PMDC Act, 2022.

These universities included TIMES College in Multan, NUR Worldwide College in Lahore, Gomal College in DI Khan, Sohail College in Karachi, Shah Abdul Latif College in Khairpur, Khwaja Fareed College of Engineering and Data Know-how in Rahim Yar Khan, College of Faisalabad, College of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Hazara College in Mansehra and Kohat College of Science and Know-how.

“Any establishment in search of recognition to supply or award postgraduate medical or dental {qualifications} should apply strictly in accordance with the prescribed process underneath Part 25 of the PMDC Act, 2022, earlier than commencing such packages,” it acknowledged.

Moreover, it maintained that Part 34 of the PMDC Act, 2022, explicitly prohibited the institution or operation of any establishment for coaching or awarding medical or dental {qualifications}, together with extra {qualifications}, with out prior recognition from PMDC. The identical provision additionally prohibited universities from granting affiliation to unrecognized establishments or packages, it added.

It additional warned that college students, at the moment enrolled in postgraduate packages provided by these universities, wouldn’t be thought of, and their {qualifications} wouldn’t be registered by PMDC.

The council additionally directed the aforementioned universities to instantly discontinue any unrecognized postgraduate program provided to MBBS and BDS docs.

“No degree-awarding establishment, college, or coaching institute shall promote, launch, or conduct any postgraduate medical or dental qualification or coaching program with out prior formal recognition from PMDC,” it stated.

“Trainees/residents (MBBS/BDS docs) at the moment enrolled in postgraduate packages provided by the aforementioned universities shall not be thought of, and their {qualifications} shall not be registered by PMDC,” the notification concluded.
