How to Get Secret Ending in REANIMAL

Tarsier Games really went the extra mile to create REANIMAL. It is possibly their most bold and ambitious project ever since stepping away from Little Nightmares, and I couldn’t deny gushing about it to my friends in my review of the game.

Part of that ambition comes from the plethora of collectibles they’ve hidden across the levels. But today, we’re focusing on the wooden coffins. There are five of these in total, and if you manage to find them all, this activates a secret ending for the game.

If you’re looking for 100 percent completion or the Platinum Trophy, you’ll definitely want to get these. Join me as this guide lists the exact locations of all five hidden coffins in REANIMAL.

These coffins must be found in a single playthrough from start to finish. This means that you cannot use Chapter Select to go back and get any that you may have missed. It needs to be a New Game save file initiated from the first chapter.

Wooden Coffin #1

The first coffin is found towards the mid-section of Chapter 1: Dead in the Water. Once you’ve successfully repaired and attached the wheels to the cart, ride it across the bridge, but don’t go inside the tunnel just yet.

Stop it halfway right before you go into it, and you’ll notice an intersecting railway track on the right side. Follow it and enter the derailed train car here. Go through it to the other end of the carriage, emerging at the first wooden coffin from the side door, as shown above.

The second coffin can be found during Chapter 3: After the Flood. Once you’ve gotten the boat and the harpoons needed to kill the enemies in the water, DO NOT go towards the main progression path with the hotel sign and the mine underneath it, as shown above.

Instead, head to the right, and you’ll see a couple of mines blocking the way. Destroy them from a safe distance, then continue to a street where you can park your boat. Get off and head to the glowing entrance in front to find a set of stairs that will lead you directly to the second wooden coffin in REANIMAL.

Thankfully, the third coffin can also be found in Chapter 3 when you’re using the boat. Specifically, it is during the section when your friend in the alcove above gets captured by a giant bird. Following them leads you to a cannon in the middle of the water here.

From where you first enter the cannon section, head towards the back left of the area. This is to the left of where your main path of progression lies at the beach and on the bottom-left side of the lighthouse. I’ve marked it above, but there is a small cave opening that you can enter with your boat here.

Be careful of another enemy in the water that can ambush you inside the tunnel.

Head through it, and you’ll immediately emerge at another small area where you can park your boat to get off and collect the third wooden coffin. Backtrack to where you came from and continue on to the lighthouse from the beach.

Wooden Coffin #4

The fourth coffin in REANIMAL is in Chapter 4: No Shelter. To be exact, this is going to the very end section of the chapter, where you need to save your friend as they’re dangling from the rope in the clock tower.

Once you first enter the room, take care of all three enemies, and then you can choose to bring up the body via the lever, but interacting with it will continue and end this chapter, so be careful.

Head to the bottom left corner of the room, and inside you’ll find the fourth coffin. This one might’ve been the most missable one out of all of them just because it’s right before an interaction that ends the whole chapter.

Wooden Coffin #5

You won’t have to worry about anything for the next two chapters at least, because the final wooden coffin is found in Chapter 7: The Spoils. This one can be a bit tricky to figure out at first, but trust me, it’s hard not to miss it once you know the location.

Once you overcome the trenches and reach the hospital, you’ll reach a section where you’ll enter an infirmary room after opening it with the bolt cutters. Head inside, and you’ll be swarmed by crawler soldiers that are trying to blow you to bits with their kamikaze grenades.

Get out of the room from the top right by carefully waiting for the soldier to blow down the wall. Head out and take caution to evade and run past the hallway of kamikaze soldiers. Once you get past them to the end, another final explosion will occur in a wall behind you, next to a wheelchair.

Do not exit this hallway; instead, enter the opening in the wall behind you to find a busted-up crank that you can turn with your partner. This will open the hatch underneath, revealing a ladder. Climb down this long ladder to reveal the last wooden coffin you’ll need to secure the secret ending for REANIMAL.

How To Unlock the Secret Ending

Obviously, the secret ending will occur once you reach the finale itself. But most importantly, just remember the “Friends Reunited” trophy for collecting all these coffins, and the ending itself won’t trigger until you’ve watched the base ending first. The secret ending itself is essentially like a post-credits cutscene, so don’t fret if you feel like it isn’t showing up.
