When you hop into a horror game, you’re expecting, above all else, to get scared. Sometimes, though, you get a lot more than what you bargained for, and you’ll be on an emotional journey unlike any other.

Or, like in the case of these games, you’ll be holding your sides with laughter.

Best Chilla's Art Games The Bathhouse The Closing Shift The Convenience Store Shinkansen 0

    10 Best Chilla’s Art Games

Chilla’s Art is known for J-horror that embraces the ordinary, and these are their best games that they ever made.

Comedy and horror have gone hand in hand since parodies became mainstream, but there are some games that aren’t riffing on anything that are just outright hilarious. Either with the dialogue, actions, or something else entirely, you’re going to be giggling as often as you’re jumping out of your seat.

As far as which games are the funniest, these ones are almost guaranteed to get a laugh out of players.

    10

    Left 4 Dead 2

    Hilarious With or Without Mods

Left 4 Dead 2 Coach Clown Infected

Left 4 Dead 2 is one of those games that’s just a good time all around, whether you’re playing single-player or multiplayer as intended. The dialogue and banter between your teammates is already plain funny (just saying, “We got a boomer!” in today’s day and age is so much funnier than it was ten years ago), but if you get your friends in the mix, it’s downright hilarious.

Not only that, but the mods that you’re able to install and place on different enemies or weapons (and of course, even your characters) make the entire experience a laughter-fest, with some of the most hysterical ideas also being some of the most insane. For example, you can turn The Jockey into Elmo or even Chuck E. Cheese; these mods somehow fit while also providing endless entertainment, and it’s really just too good to ignore.

This game is notorious for being a fun time with friends, with mods, or with nothing at all — it’s a great introduction to survival horror as a whole, and it’s mainly due to the humor that frequently lightens the mood. It’s just up to you and your friends to decide how far that humor continues to go.

    9

    Dead Rising

Yeah, This Will Work as a Weapon

    Dead Rising

Dead Rising understands the power of good improvisation. When a zombie apocalypse breaks out while you’re in a mall, it’s up to you to survive, find other survivors (who have zero self-preservation instincts, by the way), and make it out in time. Surviving, however, is where things get entertaining.

When you’re dealing with all the zombies, you can use whatever you have at your disposal as a weapon. Of course, you can find your typical weapons like knives and baseball bats, but you’re also able to find other, unique items that can work well as a weapon, such as chairs or shovels.

But best of all, you can also find things that are just outright bizarre, such as parts of mannequins, barbells, guitars, or even store displays and bowling balls. You can grab just about anything to use as a weapon, no matter how ridiculous it ends up looking (especially with whatever comedy gold you decide to put on and wear around, like a LEGO head) — it’s also hilariously realistic, because who wouldn’t use whatever they can get their hands on to protect themselves?

The number one rule of improvising is to say “yes, and,” then continue with what’s happening; it seems that Dead Rising took that rule, and decided it applies to a zombie apocalypse, too. It’s just a great time.

    Murder House

All the Jank of a Cult Classic B Movie

    Murder House

Emulating PS1 horror games with modern controls is a relatively recent, nostalgic trend of the 2020s, with developers like Chilla’s Art and Puppet Combo being among the most notorious for these kinds of games. Puppet Combo is frequently inspired by the classics, making their games feel like it came from the era — with Murder House, specifically, being one of their most iconic works.

In Murder House, you play as a journalist investigating a serial killer’s home with her team, only to find out that the serial killer is, in fact, still serial killing in there. The banter between everyone working there is hilarious, with several characters (Gary comes to mind) being among the funniest. They’re just as done with the situation as you are, and while they’re going to fight to survive, they’re going to complain every step of the way.

    Sounds like my classroom, honestly.

Upcoming Horror Games 2026 Resident Evil Requiem Halloween Iron Blight Reanimal

Every Horror Game Announced for 2026

Horror fans are eating good, and 2026 is looking to be another year of fine dining with these upcoming titles.

Just be warned, the game is far more graphic and violent than the warnings suggest, especially when it comes to children. It makes you wonder if the purposeful humor was an attempt at softening those blows. I’m particularly sensitive to this kind of thing as a teacher, so the almost slapstick comedy was definitely needed.

Either way, it’s considered one of Puppet Combo’s best, mostly because of how well it manages to balance atmosphere, genuine fear and anxiety with out-of-nowhere humor.

    Lethal Company

    Everyone Point and Laugh

    399822574_657382989593403_8257855056157005494_n.png

If you think that your job is terrible, at least you’re not working for The Company in Lethal Company. In Lethal Company, you and your friends have to drop in, scavenge a moon for supplies and whatever else you can sell for money, and then dip out with your limbs intact — if you happen to die in the meantime, you better hope your friends can manage.

Lethal Company is a co-op experience that really brings out the dark humor, with players being able to sabotage their friends, and then go as far as to sell that friend’s corpse for profit. Then, you all go to a different moon, and get to do it all over again, just with whatever monsters happen to reside there instead.

Even more hilariously, there’s a way to point in this game. It sounds so simple — literally pointing — but it easily just devolves into your friend group pointing and laughing at the one you locked out with the monsters, and everything is suddenly ten times funnier.

    RATSHAKER™

    Ease the Tension Yourself

    RATSHAKER

    Developer

    Sunscorched Studios

    Initial Release Date

    November 1, 2024

    Platform(s)

    PC

Imagine playing through Silent Hill 2, but instead of carrying the picture of Mary to remind yourself why you’re there, James is carrying around a whoopie cushion that you can occasionally squeeze instead. That’s basically what’s going on with RATSHAKER™, except you’re carrying around a talking rat.

In RATSHAKER™, you play as a man returning to your family home, haunted by your past actions and the guilt that’s all-encompassing. However, you’re not alone, since you’re carrying a rat with you that won’t let you live down your traumas. While it reminds you of all your wrongdoings, you can shut it up by literally shaking the rat, or squeezing it so it can’t breathe, and it lightens the tension every single time.

Shout out to whoever voices the rat, because when you shake it, it makes this hilarious noise as if the actor shook themselves around in front of the microphone. It’s cartoonish, exaggerated, and just as hilarious when you shake the rat the 20th time as it was the first time you shook it.

You provide your own comic relief in this game, but as hilarious as it is, it’s going to genuinely interest and surprise you by the time you get to the end.

    Resident Evil 4 (2005)

Resident Evil Has Always Had Camp

    resident evil 4 original

The Resident Evil games have always had a healthy amount of camp, stemming all the way back to the hilarious voice acting and dialogue in the first game (“Jill Sandwich” has been a meme in the fandom forever). However, when it comes to which RE game managed horror and comedy the best, Resident Evil 4 nails it. Specifically, the original; the Resident Evil 4 Remake has its share of humor, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Leon’s sass in the OG.

Leon arrives, is already done with everything and everyone, and decides to solve his problems with backflips and attitude. There are several iconic one-liners the fans still quote, such as “Your right hand comes off?” and “Where’s everyone going? Bingo?” being some of the most notorious.

    AMY Deserves Remaster

This 2012 Horror Flop Deserves Remaster Treatment

AMY was one of the worst-performing horror games of 2012, but the only thing that held it back was gameplay. What if that were different?

As much as I love the new Leon and his more toned-down expressions, there’s something about Matt Mercer as Leon S. Kennedy that brings so much charm and wit to his character. Resident Evil 4 was the prime example of this, embracing the camp that the series is known for while also managing to take itself completely seriously.

If anything, this makes me more excited for how he’s going to react to everything in Resident Evil Requiem.

    4

    Lollipop Chainsaw

    Anything for You, Boo

    Lollipop Chainsaw

Nobody really expects a zombie apocalypse to be the backdrop of so many horror comedy stories, but none are as hilarious and bizarre as Lollipop Chainsaw (or even its remaster, Lollipop Chainsaw RePop). While one could argue it’s definitely more of an action game rather than even being action horror, the zombies and supernatural elements alone have it technically sitting in horror as well.

In Lollipop Chainsaw, you play as cheerleader Juliet Starling as she takes on hoards of zombies with her chainsaw, accompanied by her boyfriend’s decapitated head attached to her belt. However, instead of being a dead, decaying corpse head like you’d expect, he’s fully cognizant and talking with Juliet, cheering her on and being lovey-dovey in the most macabre ways.

It’s a wacky, fun time all around, and the fact that you’re playing an even more hilarious bimbo makes the game all the more hysterical. There isn’t going to be a moment in this game that won’t get you to laugh or smile, so it’s definitely worth booting up on a bad day when you just really need to laugh at something ridiculous.

    3

    Voices of the Void

    Starring Maxwell the Cat

    Voices of the Void

    Developer

    EternityDev

    Initial Release Date

    August 4, 2022

    Platform(s)

    PC

There’s always something special about playing a game while it’s still in pre-alpha, getting to watch a title grow from a concept to an entirely new and unique experience that will have you feeling all kinds of pride for the game’s developers; and Voices of the Void is one that has players eagerly anticipating the full release date.

Voices of the Void has you playing as a scientist in charge of an empty observatory, and you’re tasked with tracking various phenomena while also processing signals from space. This can get incredibly creepy really quickly, but it can also get you to giggle just as readily, especially with some Easter eggs developers hid within the game.

One of the most notable Easter eggs is of Maxwell the Cat, the viral meme from last year of a low-poly tuxedo cat just rotating to some bouncy music. You can hear the music from another room, and following it will lead you straight to him, just spinning and meowing.

You can even pet him — but don’t overstimulate him. If you pet him too much, he will turn into a skeleton and explode, adding a cherry on top of the already hilarious inclusion.

    2

    Phasmophobia

    Peak Multiplayer Fun (and Fear)

    phasmophobia-screenshots-1.jpg

It’s been well established by now that while horror games can be fun on their own, they are ten times more fun (and as a result, ten times more hilarious) when played with friends. In Phasmophobia’s case, you play as a group of ghost hunters having to survive the paranormal hostility that will be thrown at you.

With proximity chat, that means that you’ll hear your friends scream for their lives and be killed in another room — and it’s genuinely the funniest thing you’ll overhear.

Horror Games that are Just Jumpscare Simulators Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion The Mortuary Assistant MADiSON Ikai

10 Horror Games that are Just Jump Scare Simulators

    BOO!

The paranormal in this game are ruthless, and will stop at nothing until you and all your friends are dead, but nothing will get a better laugh out of you at that rate. Losing is just as fun as winning in this game, and it’s entirely because of how situations unfold.

Of course, if you guys just want to do basic ghost hunting, you can set the ghosts to be friendly in custom settings, so at that point, anything out-of-pocket is definitely coming from someone else in the Discord call.

    1

    Deadly Premonition

    Horror Comedy at its Best

    Deadly Premonition

We’ve all heard the phrase “so bad, it’s good,” when it comes to B-movies, games, and other various media. In the gaming sphere, especially in horror gaming, Deadly Premonition is the go-to for this phrase. The game was inspired by Twin Peaks, and it feels just like a fever dream ripped from the show.

Seriously, everything from the dialogue, various actions our protagonist does, all the way to the wacky hijinks that ensue, will have you rolling on the floor and laughing harder than ever. Don’t get me wrong, there are still plenty of good scares, but it’s best known for the hilarity that you face at every moment of the game.

Deadly Premonition has you playing as a detective called York trying to catch a murderer, but York has walked off the sanity bridge ages ago, and he’s easily the funniest character in the whole game — in gaming overall, actually. His attitude and the way he approaches everything is weird and completely bizarre, but you’re going to love every second of it.

As tense as it is hilarious, Deadly Premonition is easily the funniest horror game of all time, with a perfect blend of fear and comedy that no other game has been able to replicate before or since.
