Like the chapters before it, Poppy Playtime Chapter 5 packs the ending sequence with a lot of content and a cliffhanger. There are a number of moments during the end sequence that are worth taking a closer look at, and that means that if you really want to understand what happened—and start considering what these events could mean for Chapter 6—you have to take note of several details that you come across throughout the entire chapter.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 5 Review
Poppy Playtime returns in Chapter 5: Broken Things with new levels of disturbing.
Then, for the sake of understanding the ending, it’s useful to consider Lily’s dollhouse as part of the ending sequence and examine it. While there’s still gameplay past this portion, a number of significant events happen during it, and those events are definitely going to be important in Chapter 6.

Time for a Tea Party
Lily Lovebraids’ Importance to the Chapter
Being kidnapped by Lily and forced to help her set up her tea party is one of the last major events in Chapter 5, and it’s where you reunite with Kissy Missy and Poppy, who are also being held captive by Lily. You find notes about the design of Experiment 1468, which includes hair that can be moved with Lily’s mind like each strand is a limb. The notes are dated August 6, 1995, and that happens to be two days before the known date when the Hour of Joy took place.
The date for Lily’s scheduled operation was August 20, 1995. Since you encounter her, you can assume that it was the Prototype who continued performing these operations after the Hour of Joy. This seems particularly likely as you can find a tape where Ms. Gracie is hiding during the Hour of Joy, and the toys drag her away while saying they won’t kill her. You then find a tape that confirms Ms. Gracie is now Lily, but seems to have no idea who she used to be.

It’s also likely that the Prototype did similar operations on the orphans Poppy wanted to save, since Poppy knew about the Hour of Joy, witnessed it, and was put into her glass case at some point afterward while still believing that the orphans were alive. You’ve been finding information about the orphans for multiple chapters, so it’s possible that Lily’s section is intended to reveal that the Prototype continued performing operations, and that the presence of former employees is important to the development of factions among the toys, both of which could come into play in Chapter 6.
The Huggy Reunion
Huggy Wuggy and Kissy Missy Reunite
This section takes place after the dollhouse, and it’s the next important section in the ending sequence. You escape Lily and find Kissy Missy by the train. However, Huggy breaks into the scene, ready to maul you. This is stopped by Kissy Missy, who is immediately a calming presence for Huggy, whose hostility fades with her offering him her hand. Of course, the Prototype mauls both Huggy and Kissy, leaving their fate unclear, but possibly killing them.
You’re thrown into a chase sequence on the train, and go through a fake-out death scene of the Prototype dropping you into some Poppy Gel. It’s not clear what happened to you here, though you might have been affected by the red smoke that follows the Prototype, but you wake up to Giblet prodding you, glad that you’re awake. He tells you that he doesn’t know Kissy’s status, but the Prototype has Poppy now, which is what he’s been after since the beginning.
The Backup
You Finally Find the Backup in the Server Room
Now that you’re left with Giblet, he leads you to the location that should have the backup he mentioned earlier in the chapter. This backup is supposed to include information about the Negation Formula you learned about in a note you picked up, and that formula should help you take down the Prototype permanently. It turns out that the backup isn’t an extra copy of files. It’s an extra copy of the Doctor, also known as Harley Sawyer, who was the head of the experiments done at Playtime Co. You previously powered him down, but apparently an extra copy of his consciousness was kept as a backup.
The chapter ends with the Doctor commenting that this is an interesting turn of events. Going into Chapter 6, the biggest question will be if he’ll help you, as he has no reason to do so and would reasonably hold a grudge towards you for breaking his core system. However, in the complex lore of Poppy Playtime, it’s possible that the Doctor could want to get rid of the Prototype for reasons unknown at this point.
It would also be believable that the Doctor wants to make a deal with you so that you take him out of the factory or let him run the factory in exchange for his help. Either way, going into Chapter 6, your only known allies who are able to help you are Giblet and possibly the Doctor, so things look bleak in Poppy Playtime.
