ISLAMABAD: The Election Fee of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday suspended the membership of 152 lawmakers of the Nationwide Meeting, Senate, and provincial assemblies who did not submit a press release of their belongings and liabilities by the due date.
The fee directed that “they shall stop to perform as members with speedy impact till such statements are submitted by them,” in response to a press release issued by the ECP.
On Thursday, the ECP reminded lawmakers to submit the main points of their belongings and liabilities, together with these of their partner and dependent youngsters, for the monetary 12 months 2024-25, warning of suspension in the event that they fail to take action by January 15.
Syed Ali Musa Gilani, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Muhammad Akhtar Mengal are amongst 32 members of the Nationwide Meeting whose membership has been suspended, whereas Musadik Malik is amongst 9 Senators additionally suspended by the election fee.
Out of the suspended MPAs, 50 are members of the Punjab Meeting, 33 of the Sindh Meeting, 28 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Meeting, and 7 of the Balochistan Meeting.
Saeed Ghani and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman are among the many lawmakers from the Sindh Meeting who did not submit particulars of their belongings and liabilities.
The ECP had said that the submission was a compulsory requirement underneath Part 137 of the Elections Act, 2017.
Part 137 (1) of the Elections Act, 2017 stipulates that “each member of an meeting and senate shall undergo the Fee, on or earlier than Dec 31 annually, a duplicate of his assertion of belongings and liabilities, together with belongings and liabilities of his partner and dependent youngsters as on the previous thirtieth day of June on Type B.”
Final 12 months, ECP suspended the membership of 139 lawmakers after they did not submit their annual statements of belongings.
