PSL 12 likely to start on March 19, 2027

PCB settles on dates for next season as the marquee event once again overlaps with the IPL

KARACHI:

The 12th edition of the Pakistan Super League is expected to begin on March 19, with the final scheduled for May 2. The dates have been tentatively agreed upon, with an official announcement expected after the franchises are taken into confidence.

According to details, the league’s broadcaster had pushed for a January start, arguing that an earlier window would help secure sponsorships. Franchise owners, however, preferred an April window. The PCB has now decided to tentatively hold PSL 12 from March 19 to May 2, with the final dates to be confirmed after consultations with the franchises.

Ramadan is expected to begin on February 8 next year, meaning the league will be staged after eid. However, PSL 12 will once again overlap with the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is scheduled to run from March 10 to May 15.

A similar clash has occurred in recent years, but it has not had a significant impact on the PSL. Pakistani fans have continued to prioritise their domestic league, while television ratings have remained largely unaffected. Officials are hopeful the trend will continue this time.

Several prominent overseas players, who do not participate in the IPL, could also join the PSL. The date for the player auction has yet to be finalised, but some franchises have already begun contacting foreign stars.

According to sources, several high-profile players could make their PSL debuts next season. While preparations are currently moving slowly, the process is expected to gather pace once the dates are officially announced.

The venues and other logistical details will also be finalised in the coming weeks.
