After two males accused of breaking and coming into and stealing round $140,000 price of things round Winnipeg and Headingley have been detained Tuesday, each of whom have been carrying court-ordered digital monitoring bracelets, the effectiveness of such screens is in query, specialists say.
“There’s no assure that anybody is not going to re-offend. There’s no assure that the police or corrections brokers will roar off as quickly as somebody violates,” stated Michael Weinrath, a College of Winnipeg Felony Justice professor.

Monitoring units are geared up with a GPS system, permitting legislation enforcement to be notified of an offender’s location in actual time and problem alerts in the event that they enter a prohibited space, in line with the province.
The province has beforehand stated 60 per cent of people with ankle screens have been rearrested and breached in October 2025.
There are 194 ankle screens in use, a provincial spokesperson stated on Tuesday.
