ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has posthumously conferred the Sitara-i-Shujaat on brave citizen Liaquat Ali for sacrificing his life while stopping a suicide bomber in Kohat and saving numerous innocent lives.
The award was received by his mother at a special investiture ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. The family of the martyr was brought to the Presidency with full official protocol.
The Sitara-i-Shujaat is the second-highest civilian award of Pakistan for bravery.
According to official details, Liaquat Ali confronted a suspected suicide attacker in the Khushalgarh area and attempted to stop him after questioning his identity.
In a moment of panic, the attacker detonated explosives, resulting in Liaquat Ali’s martyrdom, but preventing a potentially devastating attack on the local population.
Authorities stated that his courageous action thwarted the militant’s malicious intent and saved countless lives, calling his bravery and sense of duty an enduring example for the nation.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised Liaquat Ali’s sacrifice, stating that he stood firm against a suicide bomber and protected innocent civilians. He added that the entire nation salutes his bravery.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute, terming Liaquat Ali a national hero who saved a local community from massive destruction through his ultimate sacrifice.
