Use designated lanes or face e-challan

The Karachi Traffic Police has announced a new traffic plan under which motorbikes, buses and rickshaws will have to use separate lanes on Shahrah-e-Faisal, and those who break the rules will be fined.

The plan was introduced by DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah and aims to bring better lane discipline on one of the busiest roads in the city by using the existing camera system.

He said the system will first be applied on Shahrah-e-Faisal, where monitoring facilities are already available. A one-month awareness campaign will be carried out before strict implementation begins on June 1 so that people can understand the new rules.

Under the plan, motorbikes, buses, rickshaws and other light vehicles like Mazdas will use the two left lanes, while the remaining lanes will be reserved for faster vehicles such as cars and double-cabin vehicles.

The system will be monitored through cameras, and e-tickets will be issued to those who violate the rules. Fines have been set at Rs2,500 for motorbikes and rickshaws and Rs7,500 for buses.

Officials said the purpose of this initiative is to improve traffic flow and introduce proper lane discipline in Karachi for the first time in an organized way.
