UK makes necessary announcement about bases in Cyprus


NICOSIA – Britain is not going to be utilizing its bases in Cyprus for any offensive motion within the Iran disaster, the Cypriot authorities spokesperson stated on Saturday, citing a cellphone name between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.

“The British Prime Minister reiterated… that the safety of the Republic of Cyprus is prime to the UK and, to that finish, a choice has been taken to reinforce the means contributing to the preventive measures already in place,” the spokesperson stated in a written assertion.

“Lastly, the Prime Minister reiterated that the British Bases in Cyprus is not going to be used for any offensive navy operations.”

An Iranian-type Shahed drone triggered slight injury when it hit amenities at Britain’s Akrotiri airbase in southern Cyprus on March 2, with two others later intercepted. There have been no additional recognized safety incidents.

Britain retained sovereignty over two bases on the island when it granted its colony independence in 1960.
