Federation announces reforms on governance, talent development, partnerships and structure
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), in an official statement, announced a reform plan covering governance, player development, commercial partnerships and administrative restructuring, following a meeting of its adhoc committee. It said the measures aim to improve organisational processes and strengthen pathways for player development at domestic and national levels.
Governance reform and election process
The PHF said it will begin scrutiny and verification of affiliated hockey clubs within 90 days to assess their eligibility, activity and compliance with membership requirements. The review will involve legal and financial assessment to ensure transparency.
According to the statement, a list of verified voting units will be made public after the process is completed. The federation said this will be followed by elections, which are expected to take place within six to nine months under an independently monitored framework.
Talent development through schools and universities
The federation said it will conduct school-level trials in coordination with the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen. A digital profiling system will be used to maintain performance records and monitor player progress.
The PHF also said the Higher Education Commission will support an inter-university hockey competition. The federation said this initiative is intended to provide a structured pathway for players to progress from educational institutions to national-level teams.
Commercial partnerships and league support
The PHF said it has secured sponsorship support from corporate partners, including PTCL as the lead sponsor of the National Hockey League, with additional support from Jazz. The federation said the partnerships will contribute to league operations, infrastructure support and digital engagement efforts aimed at strengthening domestic competitions.
Infrastructure upgrades and departmental hockey
According to the statement, PHF is working on plans to improve playing facilities, including arrangements to acquire reusable AstroTurf from abroad for installation in selected locations.
The federation also said it will support the revival of departmental hockey by encouraging departments to form teams and participate in competitions. In addition, the PHF said it has partnered with Shifa International Hospital to provide medical services for national players.
Administrative restructuring and performance management
The PHF also said it will reorganise its administration into specialised departments, including finance, marketing, athlete welfare, coaching and international coordination. The federation said these departments will operate under defined performance monitoring systems.
The statement added that Olympians Islahuddin Siddiqui, Hassan Sardar and Samiullah will assist in overseeing technical matters, including coaching selection, talent identification and team preparation.
Oversight and technical support
The federation said former players and committee members will assist in talent identification programmes, club verification and strengthening domestic hockey structures. It added that their involvement is intended to support organisational reforms and improve technical standards within the sport.
According to the statement, the PHF has outlined a 120-day implementation plan. Initial steps include club verification, coordination with educational institutions, engagement with sponsors and the process of identifying a foreign coach.
