The third season of ‘The Night Agent’ delivered one of its most startling twists yet, as journalist Isabel discovers that the shadowy power broker she has been investigating is, in fact, her estranged father.
In an interview with TV Insider, actress Genesis Rodriguez reflected on the dramatic reveal, which sees Isabel uncover that Jacob Monroe — a figure tied to corporate intrigue and political manipulation — is her biological parent.
The discovery comes as Isabel’s investigation into CorePoint Dynamics collides with night agent Peter Sutherland’s covert mission. Rodriguez said she learned about the father-daughter connection only a few episodes into filming and was as surprised as viewers are expected to be.
She noted that because Isabel had no meaningful relationship with her father, the emotional weight of the storyline rests less on betrayal and more on unresolved longing. According to the actress, Isabel mourns not simply the man, but the relationship that might have existed.
Season three ultimately sees Monroe killed before any reconciliation can occur, leaving Isabel grappling with complicated grief. Rodriguez suggested that even in fractured parent-child relationships, hope for repair lingers.
That emotional undercurrent, she said, shapes Isabel’s reactions throughout the season, including moments when she searches for signs that her father once cared. Beyond the family drama, Isabel’s arc underscores the risks faced by journalists pursuing powerful interests.
Rodriguez praised the character’s integrity and determination, describing her as someone willing to risk her life to expose the truth. Throughout the season, Isabel repeatedly places herself in danger, convinced that public accountability outweighs personal safety.
The partnership between Isabel and Peter also evolves, built on mutual respect rather than romance. Rodriguez welcomed that dynamic, saying it was refreshing to portray a male-female alliance rooted in trust and shared purpose.
Isabel, she suggested, acts as a grounding force for the driven night agent. As for what lies ahead, Rodriguez hopes Isabel might return — perhaps after a brief respite — unable to resist the pull of another investigation. All three seasons of ‘The Night Agent’ are currently streaming on Netflix.
