A decide has denied Tesla’s request to overturn a $243 million jury verdict that held the automaker partially answerable for a deadly crash involving its Autopilot driver help system.
“The grounds for reduction that Tesla depends upon are just about the identical as these Tesla put forth beforehand throughout the course of trial and of their briefings on abstract judgment — arguments that have been already thought of and rejected,” Hon. Decide Beth Bloom’s choice reads. “Moreover, Tesla doesn’t current further arguments or controlling regulation that persuades this Courtroom to change its earlier selections or the jury verdict.”
Final August, a jury awarded a $243 million verdict towards Tesla over its culpability in a 2019 deadly crash in Florida that killed Naibel Benavides and critically injured Dillon Angulo. The jury assigned the driving force two-thirds of the blame, and attributed one-third to Tesla. Notably, the jury assessed punitive damages solely towards Tesla.
Tesla’s legal professionals argued, in its request to reverse the ruling, that the blame rested on the driving force, who helped trigger the crash.
