Ilya Lichtenstein, who pled responsible to cash laundering fees tied to his position within the large hack of crypto alternate Bitfinex, has apparently been launched early from jail.
In a Thursday evening post on X, Lichtenstein mentioned he was out early “due to President Trump’s First Step Act” (a jail reform invoice handed throughout Trump’s first time period).

The Division of Justice arrested Lichtenstein and his spouse Heather Morgan in 2022 and seized $3.6 billion price of bitcoins that had been stolen from Bitfinex. The couple grew to become notorious after their arrest and have been featured in a Netflix documentary referred to as “Biggest Heist Ever.”
Lichtenstein ultimately admitted to his position within the hack and was sentenced to five years in prison.
It’s not clear whether or not the Trump administration performed a direct position within the launch. An administration official told CNBC that Lichtenstein “has served important time on his sentence and is at present on dwelling confinement in line with statute and Bureau of Prisons insurance policies.”
