KARACHI – In a strategic move to tackle the escalating energy crisis, the Sindh Cabinet has approved a series of austerity measures. These decisions come as a response to the regional instability caused by the ongoing war in Iran, which has severely impacted energy supplies across Pakistan.
Austerity Measures and Office Timings
The Cabinet has officially banned all government-funded Iftar parties across the province. To further conserve electricity and fuel, a 4-day work week has been implemented for government offices, providing employees with an additional weekly holiday.
Two-Week School Closure
In a significant move for the education sector, all schools in Sindh will remain closed for the next two weeks. However, the government clarified that ongoing or scheduled examinations will proceed as planned. Students are advised to follow their respective date sheets provided by the boards or school administrations.
National Context of the Energy Crisis
Sindh is not alone in these measures; the Federal government, along with Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has already introduced similar energy-saving protocols. The ripple effects of the Middle East conflict have forced provincial administrations to prioritize essential services while cutting down on non-essential energy consumption.
